Pau D' Arco or Tabebuia is a neotropical genus of approximately 100 species that belong to the Bignoniaceae family. The species can be found from northern areas of Mexico and Antilles to the northern parts of Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Haiti. They are large shrubs and trees that can grow upwards of 160 feet tall.
The ancient Incas valued Pau D' Arco. They noted that the Pau D' Arco flora was one of the few that didn't disappear in the hot and humid conditions of the Amazon jungle.
The South American Callaway tribe commonly uses Pau D' Arco today.
In Argentina, the best Pau D' Arco is the violet-flowered Tabebuia heptaphylla.
